I was absolutley devastated when Jack Oneill left the show, I believe that he was integreal to making the show 'work' he was the light comedy relief to an otherwise over serious show, lets face it Carter, Daniel and Tilk dont do one liners!

I just wonder what you think about StarGates 'life' without Jack Oneill... I for one dont watch it without him...

Teal'c. :(

Anyway yeah, while I really wish he was still on the show, nothing is forever. The "Farscape duo" seems to be an acceptable replacement for now, even though I do find O'Neil's antics to be more amusing.

I'm not convinced by the replacement. he's ok, but just doesn't seem to carry that air of authority that Jack had. He's a bit of a spare part that the other team members carry.

Very much in agreement with you there Paradox!

I watched a few of the shows with the 'farscape duo' yeah it must be said, they suck!

He is no Jack and she... well how many different ways can you say annoying!

It also miffs me off when they say little (supposedly inside) jokes like ''havnt I seen you somewhere before'' no s**t hun!

I think they pretty much are putting nails in the StarGate SG1 coffin one episode at a time.

Lay it to rest whilst it still retains some integrity!

Nobody likes change it seems. :(

I'll admit, the Ori plotline really isn't all that impressive, and I think it's safe to say that might be affecting how "the newbies" are rubbing off on people. Once the Ori are wrapped up, (hopefully by the end of season 10) they'll hopefully do better with the next group of bad guys, making the show's course feel less...disappointing--new characters or not.

I don't mind change, the problem I'm having is that I can't see what Mitchell adds to the show. Or Vala, for that matter.

Mitchell just sits around spouting bad one-liner wannabes that aren't funny and Vala tries to get into everyone's pants.

I want Jack back!

Fortunately - he's in a couple episodes of S10 and a couple eps of Atlantis!

I just couldn't get into S9 and have hardly paid attention to S10. I don't know if it's Browder or if it's just bad writing, but something is NOT working with the Mitchell character.

And Vala's just pointless. And I'm not really loving Beau Bridges. I think they grabbed too many 'high profile' names to try to 'bribe' people to watch and it just ain't workin'.

Not sure about the authority but somehow he just doesn't seem military, in the same way that Jack was...

I'm gonna get into something here...I just know it :) ...Buuut...How much did Jack really add to the couple of seasons where he was just part-time?...It really got on my nerves that they were just dragging along with the three of them...Now we've got the four person team dynamic back and it works again...I thought season 9 was far better than at least the previous 2...But then again...I wasn't all that bothered about Jack anyways :) ...My wife loves him though...He's back for season 10 anyways...at least 5 episodes apparently...I so look forward to them...Oh...And I grant you Bridges is not Hammond of Texas...But I like him...

It's just different is all...I'm enjoying it myself...

Robertbertbertbertbertbert, I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it like that. Even though I was a huge fan of Jack on the show, I'm also a big fan of the series theme itself, so even if they replaced the entire cast, I'd still watch it. I wouldn't be happy with that decision, though...

Though I'm no fan of the new character, I must admit that I'm liking the new story arc much more. I much prefer the Ori to the Goa'uld. Whilst the little snake heads were integral to Stargate, I began to look on them in the same way as I looked at the Klingons in Star Trek. I think the show needed a new enemy - the replicators were great but it was right that they didn't get to be overplayed too.
I hope that the Ori will be around for a while anyway.

The 'theme' of the show is why I really liked the early episodes of Atlantis - the dynamic was there and the theme was the same.

And my thoughts on Browder are probably based a lot more on the ep from a couple weeks ago where he actually DIDN'T do anything but sit around tossing out bad one-liners.

When S9 hits DVD, I'll give it a look and see if I missed anything that makes him better as a character, but so far, I really don't like him much.

I tried hard not to like Mitchell or Vala. When new blood is introduced into a show it usually means it's on its last legs. (Which as we know now, it is.)

But I ended up liking them both.

I haven't seen enough of S9 to judge much about Mitchell. But I've seen more than enough of Vala - she just bugs me.

Jack in charge of the whole base was quite amusing, and he was still silly (and occasionally travelling offworld), but yes! Without him the show is just a lot flatter. And his token appearances in the 200th and the corresponding Atlantis Episode were rather colorless as well.

I'm getting tired of all the drivel on Sci-Fi Channel (especially since they removed Jack from SG1) which is becoming nothing more than "B" grade horror movie fare. Comedy has disappeared from Sci-Fi as of late.

I watched a preview for a pilot episode of a retro campy comedy thing called "Lunar Lodge" (or moon motel or moon lodge, something like that - it was a kind of Fawlty Towers on the moon kind of thing) that has some serious overtones, as well. It is being submitted to Sci-Fi or Fox (I think). The main charater was a dude from the era of Breakfast Club / Ferris Buhler movies. Did anyone else see this?

It's funny, my initial reaction on seeing the Browder character was that he was far too much of an O'Neill clone and that the character would have benefitted from being more of a departure from what had gone before.

Also RDA could overplay the sillyness at times at the entire cast lack any sort of military air.

In my humble opinion Atlantis greatest weakness is that it overplays campness, sillyness and Sci-Fi Archetypes to such an extent and not one of the characters could pass for a soldier in any corner of the western world.

Also a bit off topic I know, but when are Sci-Fi explorers going to encounter an Alien Martial art that's inferior to an Earth one?
I want to see some alien warrior getting his backside handed to him by a minor tibetan monk for once!

I have recently bought all of the Stargate episodes to season 9 and have systematically seen them in order. I'm currently going through season 9 and since I haven't seen Stargate other than the movie...I've been through one hell of a ride.

That being said.

The introduction of Vala and Mitchell certainly give the series a shift in focus. When technically things should be more serious after the battles with Anubis and the Replicators...the creators go with more direct humor.

It's ok for now. The overlying character development seems to be primarily Vala and Jackson, imo, but I haven't finished seeing season 9. I haven't seen too much interest in Mitchell's character buildup cause he seems too perfect...even Landry asked for a weakness.

Maybe I still need to finish season 9...
