Hi. There's a book I read in 8th grade that I liked and would like to get, but don't remember the title, the author, or even what it was about. I remember details, sure, but not enough to run a wild goose chase. I want to get the book to read it again. If anyone has any idea I'd appreciate the help.
It's not much, but here's what I remember. First of all I don't know if it was part of a series. It was a fantasy book whose main character was a teenage girl. She could either talk to animals or simply understand them. I think there was a part where she healed a bird (or it might have been another animal....) that was either dead or almost dead. There was also a part where she tried to listen.....magically, to her environment (I cannot recall the reason) but in doing so she thought that her heartbeat was clouding her hearing. She tried to lower the sound of her heartbeat without realizing that she was actually slowing/stopping her heart. She was then scolded by a man (her teacher/mentor maybe?) who explained that using that....magic/gift actually caused what it appeared to cause (or something along the lines).
Sorry it's not very specific, however that second part is specific enough as to where anyone who's read the book (and remembers its name) and stumbles upon it will know exactly the book. Thanks!
