(Dean Devlin is one of the original writer/producers of the original Stargate movie. That's all you need to know for this rant.)
I was at Dragon*Con and saw one of the Stargate panels, with the whole lineup of the various cast members up on stage (Don Davis and Torri Higgenson, through Gary Dow and Claire Rankin, with some extra special Cliff Simon, various others).
So after the cast do their introductions, the moderator of the panel steps in to mention that she has been in contact with Dean Devlin and that he wanted to do something for us fans of the show.
So, they play a video the guy made, behind him is the movie poster for Stargate-the-Movie and next to it, a movie poster for another movie he is plugging, which he plugs. I won't bother to mention the name of the movie or when it comes out.
What got me was that he kept praising us for keeping Stargate alive all these years, and how they had wanted to make a trilogy out of the original movie, and that he was so glad that now he had a chance to do it -- never once did he clarify that he wanted to make a trilogy that ignores the show completely. He thanked us over and over for keeping the 'franchise' alive, and plugged his new movie over and over, and what I was thinking the whole time, was...
WHY THE HELL ARE YOU THANKING US? YOU DON'T EVEN LIKE THE SHOW! YOU WILL BE IGNORING IT WHEN/IF YOU MAKE YOUR MOVIES! WE ARE FANS OF THE SHOW, NOT YOUR LAME B MOVIE! HAVE YOU NO IDEA OF THE SWARM OF MICHAEL SHANKS FANS THAT ARE OUT THERE?!
Way to ride some coattails. For 10 years. Ass.
He got only polite applause.
