Has anyone Read?

Hmmm. No, I have not read, but I love that title... sounds quite intriguing. Could you give a little more information about the book?

I'm assuming you mean the book by Terri Farley? No, I've not read it, but I note that she's written many other books, all on a horse related theme. I could find little information on Seven Tears into the Sea. What sort of book is it?

Scrub the last post! I have found Terri Farley's website: http://www.terrifarley.com/index.shtml

It seems that this might be her first fantasy novel, with the other series being The Phantom Horse series. There are other fantasy stories around that involve selkies. The one that springs to mind is by Amanda Hemingway: Greenstone Grail, Traitor's Sword (US - Sword of Stroar) and The Iron Crown. I believe there is an underworld war in the last book involving selkies and kelpies and all manner of things oceanic! It doesn't sound as if the Terri Farley book is written in the same style as Amanda's, but having read the first two of the Sangreal Trilogy, I'd recommend them as a good YA read anyway.

A book about Selkies ... thanks Mark. Am definitely going to look for it now. One that I read recently and liked very much was The Inn At The Edge Of The World by Alice Thomas Ellis.

There's also the Pangur Ban books by Fay Simpson and those are Celtic fantasies with Pangur Ban the white cat.

And an old book called Kelpie's Pearls by Mollie Hunter & Stephen Gammell. I read it ages ago but it's a lovely tale indeed.

hmm, ok... to save people who have never heard of selkies (like me) a bit of a headache...

Selkies (also known as silkies or selchies) are mythological creatures in Irish, Icelandic, and Scottish mythology that can transform themselves from seals to humans, where "selkie" is simply the Orcadian word for "seal". The legend apparently originated on the Orkney Islands.

rock on wikipedia!

Hey everyone sorry I didn't get back on in time to explain the book, but thank you Mark for telling them. I will definitely look into the titles you all suggested. I have yet to look at the HPL link Nesacat, but I will soon.
If you like books about selkies, a great movie is The Secret of Roan Inish, I love Irish films!!!

thanks!!!!!!

Just read 'Fur' today by Meg Harper, which is a great story with a Selkie twist to it. It's a little predictable, but very well written YA book which addresses several teen themes - body image, teen relationships and family relationships. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
