This has probably been discussed before, so forgive me, but in the episode "Threshhold" where Paris travels at Warp 10, then mutates into some kind of reptile as a result, why the hell don't they install the drive on Voyager and fly home??! Yes: they would all begin to turn into lizards, but the Doctor wouldn't be affected, and he was able to successfully treat Paris and Janeway (at the end of the episode they were completely fine). So why couldn't he treat the entire crew the same way. If you're going to say he wouldn't have time, he could quickly explain the situation and have the assistance of an army of medical personnel, and they could use industrial replicators to produce one of those anti-proton chamber things for each crewmember.

Ignoring the story, which by any standards was awful and badly thought out.

The drive system simply did not work. While quicker it was not significantly faster (Voyager caught up). They also had problems trying to keep any form of structural integrety for the shuttle.

But in the end the excuse for the Doctor to be able to return them to normal was that cells had not finished mutating. Which suggests that by the time Voyager got home the crew would be a puddle of protozoa. I suspect this would be a bit of a downer.
