Was just wondering if anyone had read any of Richard Morgans Takeshi Kovacs novels and what you might have thought of them?

Yes I have read them all....really enjoyed the first...the second less so and then thought the third was back on form.

He's got another book out in the next few weeks I believe.

He's releasing another? Awesome. Morgan rates as one of my favorite authors - "Altered Carbon" is an awesome book. The other two are good too, and while not up to the initial quality of the series, there are some great moments in both.

His stand-alone, "Market Forces" is a pretty good book too, although that divides opinion more.

He has a new book - "Black Man" out next month. It doesn't appear to be a Kovacs book, although it doesn't sound like too much of a departure from his previous books judging from Amazon's summary.

I thought "Altered Carbon" was an excellent book, the sequels were good as well, but I think his decision to not do any more Kovacs books for a while is a good idea, some parts of the third book were starting to feel a bit familiar from the previous books and I'm not sure how much more there is to know about the character.

"Market Forces" was OK, but I found the central premise (the "I'll see you on the road" thing) a bit too unlikely to take seriously.

I've heard he's working on a Fantasy series now, which could be interesting.

A fantasy series? Hmm, the best bits in his Kovacs books were the high-tech parts, I think, but you never know, he might be able to pull it off.

I understand what you mean about his sequels, although I had a problem with that anyway, a huge sense of deja-vu on the third book, which I later realised was down to having read half of it before I even started Altered Carbon. No wonder it didn't make sense at the timel;)

Yes he is giving Kovacs a break for how long ,who knows....I sent him a fawning fan email a few moons ago asking if he had any more plans for the character...the reply was something along the lines of 'I think he deserves a rest' :) ...

the new book "black man" is set only a few years in the future and I'm pretty sure he doesnt ever want to write another Kovacs book but you never know.

... and we wouldn't want to disturb Kovacs when he was resting, we wouldn't dare ;)

Not unless we wanted to be on the wrong end of a Nemex handgun. ;)

RM is my current must-read author. I love Altered Carbon so much it's almost illegal, and Broken Angels was ALMOST as good. Woken Furies I found a little disappointing as Kovach's swan song, but only because it was just very very good as opposed to awesome. I agree that perhaps it was best for the Envoy to take a well earned rest and, in a way, the third book does provide good, surprisingly upbeat closure for the character.

Market Forces I also loved, but you have to take the "road raging" in the spirit it's intended, a warning fable rather than an attempt to show how things might actually go. Though the political and economic side of the book I found VERY believable, worryingly so.

The funny thing is, I've tried to get a few others into these books but most of them can’t get past the violence. I know that the torture sequence in AC put at least two people off, though it shows very little in terms of actual gore.
