Re-read this today - it's a lot better than I remember it as, actually. Funnily enough, one of the aspects I most enjoyed about it is the developed and plot arc on Gordon - actually seems the major focus on the book. The inclusion of Catwoman is quite interesting, too. The development of Batman himself almost seems like an after-thought at times, actually - but that's possibly why it's more interesting to see Gordon as a focus.

Yes, at least as good (if not as well known) as Miller's Dark Knight Returns, and - in some people's minds - even better. I believe Year 1 is the first time we see Gordon's wife.
