In the first book - I forget which page but it's near the end of a chapter - it gives a hint to book 6:
Harry dreamed of Malfoy laughing, then it changed to snape laughing and then there was a flash of green light. Obviously we wouldn't be able to get anything out of this but I think it may have purposly put there.
What are your thoughts

I don't think so - I think that's merely a muddle of his memories and nightmares all combining into one big nasty dream.

i don't think it meant anything particularly
but then again
JK has had the last chapter of book 7 in her safe written in 1990
she stated this on an interview with Richard & Judy
LUFF TO JK! what a legend =]]
[MEOW]

Is this a dream before the Quidditch match?

A possibility.
You know what JK is like...

Edit: I must say, that is a really good spot. Nice!

mmm it is hard to say,

Rowling does that a fair bit in her book, givin hints to many things. i realy dont no but why would she think of Killin Dumbldore that earlier on in the series. it is a bit muddled up

it's a good theory, and in real life dreams are meant to be an indication of the future - it is entirely possible that JK puts them in as seemingly meaningless page fillers with more meaning that appears at first....oh well, only 16 days till we find out!

There's probably a thread or ten devoted to this, but I still reckon deep down Snape is a good person.

An' I won' stand for any snape baggin', ya hear?

Snape is the only reason I continue to read the books.
I also think that until we've read all of the books, we have no way to discern between filler and foreshadow.

Funny thing is I think me and my maths teacher have had a very similar convosation about this. We came to a conclusion that it meant nothing.

And after 6 years of secondary education I've come to the conclusion that maths teachers no nothing about anything except maths. They seem to live for it.

Harry has had countless dreams about voldemort but we all know that its because the scar connects them. But now if that was a clue placed there that would most likely imply harry has the ability to see the future. I don't fancy this theory, i don't even like it............i believe in JK she can't possibly confuse me anymore.

Im having damn nightmares already that trio dies. Please can we put all the assumptions aside lets be patient for the remaining 13 days. plz please please. im tearing apart.

I passed it off as coincidence. Both Snape and Malfoy are two individuals that Harry greatly mistrusts, and dislikes, and the image of them laughing is a personification of what Harry feels is their sinister natures. While J.K. is definitely a calculating writer, and has done a splendid job at keeping her work consistent and cohesive, I don't believe she was foreshadowing the sixth book in her first work; it's a bit too calculated.

she is very calculating, and i reckon that she might have subconsciously put in several hints to future events - this could be one of them

Still, I'm inclined to believe the latter is true, that the images are merely a manifestation of how Harry feels about these two characters. Even J.K. herself has said that throughout her series some turn-of-events came about through the natural process of writing - developing the characters and the plot as the story progressed.

I have to agree with the (not so long winded anymore) Commonmind.
