thjis may be totally preemptive, but i got an email from my publisher saying they may not be opening submissions again for a while because of cash flow problems. my novel isn't out with them yet, and im fearing that a, they go bust, and b, they never take onbook 2 because of said cash flow problems!
im wondering whether to look elsewhere or get the book out with them first then do that.
a friend of mine, who is in print, said to look elsewhere, that other small print places don't like books previously published, not unless they're rewritten, which i wont' do. (edit bits yes, change bad bits yes, but not rewrite just to make the book different enough)
but other people say that having a book out already will make it look more interesting to another publisher.

so im just wondering, is this true? is it better to get the book out, then market it as best i can, try and make a name for myself, and look else where for someone a bit more solid for the entire series?

or just start again now, which i hate to do after waiting a stinky year to get this one out!

i don't know for sure if they will close submissions, OR go bust, but i like to be prepared and not wait until the last moment, so any thoughts?

depends on your contract, what does your contract state for them going bust and deadline for publication?
Did they give you a publication date that they have to keep?

they didn't give me a deadline, no. and there isn't one in the contract. but the contract does say i can give notification to cancel it at any point, which is something. they said they would get back to us end of october about the fiances, but i've emailed them about other matters and had no reply at all. so im looking elsewhere, in honesty, just in case.

In all honesty if you that worried then maybe you should listen to your concerns and give notice, if they are that determined to publish they will try and talk you out of it.
Ultimatly dont listen to me, it has to be your choice, but if you having these massive doubts maybe there is a reason...without having all the info and being in your position with all the fact no one here can really fully advise.
