Hi, I'm trying to find out the names of two memorable short stories I once read.
- The first is set on an alien planet where the descendants of a space wreck are born, grow old and die in seven days under the strange influence of the planet they are on. They live in caves and battle with a different set of cave dwellers, who due to different geological shielding live for nine days, in order to take their place whenever possible.
It appeared in a hard back anthology I read back in the late '70s I think.
The second appeared in one of those soft-cover sort of pulp scifi mags you buy from any newsagent. Also at around the same time or a bit earlier.
- In it a mysterious darkness is moving toward the earth obscuring the stars. When it reaches the earth it is as if blindness has struck. No light or fire is visible. You cannot see your own hand in front of your face. I didn't finish this one so I don't know what happens.
Can anyone help?
