I was just thinking about one of my favorite books when I was younger and have blanked on the name!
It is about a group of children that are looking for their father. From what I remember they are going on a trip to find him - i think he was an inventor and was kidnapped by someone.
One distinct thing that I remember about the book is one chapter about a pulse. The children are getting closer to their father and are in a place that looks very normal, yet everything is happening in accordance to a pulse. Little kids are skipping and jumping rope to the pulse. As the kids get closer to the center of the city the pulse gets faster and faster...
I know this is vague but it is driving me crazy! I would really love to read the book again as an adult.
