Elizabeth Haydon! Anyone a fan?

Love her books. :D
Has very good world building (Even Tolkien-esk in a way), that and the interactions between the three main characters are great and intelligently written. The plot is full on surprises and ah-ha moments which just adds to a great story with the twists and does not go on and on for books after books! (Jordan - Evil man :D ), she is very wise with how the story line is presented in her stories as well. A lot of fantasy can get lost in its own plot twists and by introducing too many characters in detail.
That and the brother and his resigned – Why should I bother, you are going to do it anyway – Lines and comments are brilliant. I also like that she does not use that many set fantasy classics, and uses originality for a lot of things instead – Fantasy and SF can get very samey after awhile – Her books are more a breath of fresh air in some ways, for me at least. You get a bit bored of - Me barbarian! Me chop! or Lets be goody goodes and beat the evil ones!

i finished the rhapsody trilogy last night. as far as a fantasy book goes, its not the greatest ever, but the love story is beyond phenomenal. i have always been a sucker for a great love story and the love story between rhapsody and Ashe begins from when they were 14 and spans over 1400 years... the pain, suffering, war, deceit, deaths and plain agony they go through to find each other really makes u wonder about the concept of soul mates and true love. this is a couple that i dont think i will ever forget. they stand alongside Jack and Aliena from Pillars of the earth, Molly and Fitz from Farseer and Tawny Man, jim and Holly from Coldfire. Rhapsody and Ashe are a couple for the ages, their story is truly incredible. how do u find someone that u dont know you are looking for? especially when the person is your soul mate...

I just finished the six books today. I really liked it. It's a good story and good romance between Rhapsody and Ashe. People should read it.

I read Rhapsody a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the series. Ms Haydon has given both Rhapsody and Ashe wonderful character traits, although I wouldn't consider them quite as good as Jack and Aliena from Pillars of the Earth.

i loved Jack and aliena, glad to see someone else love them as much as i did. I read their scenes several times over when i was done with the novel. Aliena scouring all of Europe to find Jack was effing incredible. However i gotta say Rhapsody and Ashe's love story was beyond phenomenal. They didnt just scour the world looking for each other, but they scoured time itself 1400 years to be exact. Their love was so powerful that they found each other without knowing. fave couples in fiction: Rhapsody and Ashe, Jack and Aliena, Fitz and Molly (Farseer Hobb), Jim and Holly (cold fire Koontz)

Rosemary, why do u like Jack and Aliena more? also which other fictional couples do u hold high? Shingetsu and i love a great epic romance in our novels.

I havn't gotten to Pillars of the Earth yet, still on my list. But yeah, romance usually adds to the story if you ask me. Seems almost all SFF books have romance in one way or another, or atleast the series I've read so far.

And Fitz and Molly are good, but the tragedy almost made me stop after the frist three. And all those years apart and Molly with another man pissed me off. At least the ending made up for everything, even if it was done in like 20 pages and would have been nice to be a full book.

At least with Rhapsody and Ashe you know their love is eternal and they'd never be with someone else. Another example of a good couple is Daemon and Jaenelle from The Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop.

I think it is just the fact that Jack and Aliena are in an historical setting and I'm an avid history fan! :) I must admit though, I don't really go for the epic romance side of stories.

I 100% agree. Daemon and Jaenelle have a good love story, but I also liked Marian and Luciver's story as well (Read Dreams Made Flesh - book after the trilogy). Fitz and Molly likewise got on my nerves (should have been Fitz and Fool, LOL) but I was cool with how they ended. Rhapsody and Ashe/Gwydion do have one of the best love stories I've read in a while.

Yes, I love Elizabeth Haydon!!!
Who is your favorite character(s)?

Mine are:

Achmed
Grunther
Anborn
Rhapsody (when she isn't getting on my nerves)

I thought the first trilogy was great but was a bit let down by the second one. It started out well but I felt cheated at the end of the sixth book as the story didn't finish there.

I read Rhapsody a few years back, although I thought it had some good ideas. I was bored witless by the journey along the root, so never finished the trilogy. I was having trouble sleeping last night and decided to give Rhapsody another go. The journey would send me to sleep, but I was rather pleasantly surprised, this time round I enjoyed the tree didn't seem to be as endless as last time.So this time I'll likely read all three:)

Yes Nixie, you should definetly continue reading. The story only gets better.
