Torchwood: Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles)

Gwen Cooper is initially an outsider, whose first, chance meeting with
Torchwood is at the scene of a brutal murder.

Gwen is played by Eve Myles, who previously appeared as Gwyneth in the
Doctor Who episode The Unquiet Dead. It remains to be seen if Myles's
two similarly named characters are linked in any way, but when the 'The
Torchwood Institute' was seemingly destroyed in modern times becoming the
focal point for a conflict between the Daleks and the Cybermen, it
apparently survived and continues to operate in Cardiff on the site of a
rift in time and space. The existence of this rift dates back more than a
century to the time in which Gwyneth lived.

According to SFX Magazine, "she has a bit more human empathy than the rest of the team, who have all been stuck hunting aliens for a bit too long..."

I think she's going to get picked on for being a bit soft-hearted, but I like her. She's fairly pragmatic and can hold her own.

She did act a little daft at times in the first two eps I've seen, but she's a good conduit for the necessary exposition and Captain Jack really 'likes' her.

I love her...She's clever, funny...Sexy as hell...I can't get enough of that accent!!...She can run!!...Bloody hell she can run!!...

I'm hoping that she can maintain the thing with her Boyfriend...I think he's really funny:D ..."I'm off to Dav's for a curry"...Oh yeah!!...

It's nice to have someone to be all "What the hell?"...'Cause we are...:D ...

Yep, she's quirky looking, gorgeous though.

I love her enthusiasm for Torchwood and that she questions the morality of the project. She can also handle all the frightening elements they encounter.

And I agree with you Robertbert, the Welsh accent is brilliant :)

Exactly, and the whole Torchwood cast are pretty easy on the eye.

Aye they are that...The marvellous thing about the accent is it's oh so easy to mimic...So every night after we've watched it, we're all "Ooooh in't it maaaarvellous...Yn dy fe?..."...That's Welsh for "Isn't it?" btw...

Bloody hell she's gorgeous...A mate of mine thinks she looks like Elton John though...Can't see it meself...Thank God!!....

Your mate needs his eyes checked! :)

Yep, I can't help putting on a bit of the Welsh accent after I watch Torchwood. Someone on another thread compared it to scouse! That's mental.

This is what the Blowfish said in his team analysis in Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang:
...the Carer with her oh so beating heart...

For most of the first season I found it difficult to know why she was recruited. She was clumsy, emotional and indecisive. However, she seems to have grown a bit, and her links to the Police make her a useful asset on there own.

If you guys can all stop drooling for long enough to let a straight woman in on this topic, I love Gwen too! Because she seems "real" in a way that few TV actors do. I can imagine having a drink in a pub with her and laughing at some outrageous joke.

She was mad to sleep with Owen though. And I don't care for the fiance.

I was wondering if Gwen and Gwyneth were the same actress -- glad to see that it wasn't all in my imagination -- but it hadn't occurred to me that there might be any relationship between the two characters.

Although ... Gwyneth seemed to have some sort of telepathic connection with the aliens quite apart from her ability to open the rift, and Gwen has that high level of empathy, besides being able to partly read Eugene's thoughts after he died. So they do seem to have similar abilities. Maybe there's a plan to reveal some sort of relationship later on.

I love Gwen, Torchwood wouldn't be the same, she deals with their prisoners reasonably unlike Jack, I think she's beautiful and I love the accent.
