Sure some of you read his books. I bought Wicked because of the broadway hit musical, then I bought Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister(don't you just love the cover design and the book's nice feeling in your hand - the papers are soft unlike the usual massmarket papperbacks). Haven't read neither I'm already eyeing his Mirror, Mirror and Lost, my weakness. Any opinions about his books?

I started reading Maguire with Lost that was a gift. I liked that. It was sort of a cross between Dickens' Christmas carol and all those tales about the Ripper. A different sort of ghost story.

I then read Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister, which I didn't quite like. The story was pretty uninspiring and the characters not well fleshed out though the book had a good idea to begin with.

Recently read Wicked, which I also like very much and is probably my favourite of all his books thus far.

Am probably going to read Mirror, Mirror next and then Son of a Witch.

I found the reviews of this book are mixed, some like it some hate it. But the idea and the story seem very intriging and promising(Jack the Ripper, A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Exorcist even a wafting glimpse of Dracula?) I'll have to put it on my Xmas treat-myself list. Thanks for the input, Nesacat. And thanks for the lead Brown Rat, I was looking for a thread of Maguire.

I tried to read Wicked, but I gave up a few chapters in. The writing style wasn't to my liking at all. I'm not usually the prudesh type, but some of what I did read seemed overly-vulgar and lewd, and I found it kind of offensive. I asked a couple of my good friends to give it a go and see what they thought. One, like myself, didn't get very far, and the other one finished it and hated it.

Since you already own the books, I would definitely recommend reading them (or trying to :)). I'll be interested in what you think after.

Sure I'll try to read as soon as I'm in the mood for it. If I can't go on then I won't go on - never be able to finish a book that I hate. By the way your doggie looks very much like one of my dogs who also likes dozing off in my bed.

I'm not sure if I'll read more by him or not. I loved Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. As for Lost, Mirror Mirror, and Son of a Witch...I didn't find them to be the same quality of writing.

I'm in love with Wicked. I quite enjoyed Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Mirror, Mirror too, although I found them all to be quite different to one another. Looking forward to the sequel to Son of a Witch.

When you you read Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister I would like your opinion of it as I was considering buying it.
