Despite being a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica television series, I thought the new Battlestar Galactica miniseries was a vast improvement over the original version. The new Battlestar Galatica was far more gritty and realistic. Furthermore, it does not shy away from its dark premise. Part of the reason why the original Battlestar Galactica failed as a show was because creator Glen A. Larson wanted his show to have a family oriented feel to it. The reason for this was because it was made during the late 1970s and he had to tone down the darkness due to censors.
In addition, Mr. Larson is a Mormon and all his shows have a "tree hugging" "touchy-feely" attitude about them, despite being catorized as crime/drama. Such examples include: Knight Rider and Automan. Anyway, the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that the new Battlestar Galactica television show will be THE Battlestar Galactica from now on. If the show is successful, I have reason to believe that a spinoff is a possibility or maybe even a feature film. If it's the latter, I'm willing to bet that it will be with the new Battlestar Galatica version, regardless of Glen A. Larson's plan for a continuation movie. Besides, it's been so many years since the cancelation of the original series and with the success of the new miniseries, the possibility of a continution movie now seems highly remote. If one day there is a Battlestar Galactica motion picture, do you think it will be with the original cast, or the reimagined cast?
