Something about Mickey/Ricky the idiot

In the first season, the Doctor insistingly called Mickey, Ricky the idiot. By the time of the episode entitled, "Rise of the Cybermen", Mickey encounters his parallel counterpart named Ricky. Now, mind you, the Doctor said that they're arrival to this parallel world was just an accident, but I've often wondered why he always called Mickey, Ricky the idiot. I'm guessing that the Doctor probably knew of Mickey's counterpart in that universe, but was leading on more than he knew, that is, Mickey was always destined to live in this parallel world and would probably explain why the Doctor didn't do anything to convice him otherwise. Or perhaps it was just sheer coincidence?

I think it was just coincidence. If he knew of the differences and similarities in the parallel universe then he'd not have been as lost as he was.
I think the point of The Doctor getting Mickeys name wrong on purpose and calling him an idiot was to push him into becoming more than he was, probably because The Doctor saw potential in him and wanted to nurture that, but without making it seem obvious.
Mickey wanted to prove The Doctor wrong, that he wasn't an idiot, and that prepared him for what was to come, and ultimately, for taking on the good fight against the Cybermen in the parallel universe, despite that being an unknown at the time.

It all depends on how you interpret the information you are given - like writing a book report.

I just said it was to push him into becoming more than what he was because the Doctor always seems to see the potential in people. He has the ability to see the good in people and other aliens, and wants to tap into that.
I thought that if you were told by someone that you were not smart enough to do something, that you would try and prove them wrong, and that this was what the Doctor was doing with Mickey. It would seem that he wasn't doing anything to help him, whilst if you read between the lines, this wasn't true.
