(Found) Dragon book

I read a really good dragon book awhile ago, but I can't remember its name nor its author I'll tell as much of the plot as I can remember.

There was a boy who worked on some sort of dragon ranch. If I remember right he had a crush on a girl who worked there who actually turned out to be the owners daughter.

Somehow he gets a dragon egg and takes it out to the desert to raise it.

Eventually the daughter discovers this but encourages him.

He takes his dragon to this arena where the dragons fight and the winners get money.

and thats all I remember any help is greatly appriciated.

Could be completely of mark here but it sounds a little like Joust by Mercedes Lackey

Fraid no I think it was a YA book if that helps. Couldn't have been over 200 pages I think cause it was in an elementary/JH library

Sounds like Jane Yolen's Pit Dragon Trilogy. It's Young Adult and I believe the first book is called Dragon's Blood.
