With the upcoming B5: The Lost Tales as a straight-to-DVD, I am thrilled that there will be more stories coming from this fascinating universe. As I understand it, the story takes place in the year 2272, five years after the events of Crusade. Mariel was kind enough to provide us with a link in regards to the update of the project:
J. Michael Straczynski - B5:TLT Pre-Production - Babylon5scripts.com
In the article, there is a particular quote from Straczynski that caught my interest:
"I wanted to focus on the human characters initially so we'd have more time for prosthetics R&D for the next one.) The stories, as noted previously, were huge...all over the map, from Minbar, to Earth, Mars, the future, the distant past, as well as B5 itself obviously. We're also going to be trying some new production technologies, again trying to stay ahead of the tech curve, the way B5 has always stayed ahead on these things."
If the characters are going to be traveling to Earth, then that must mean that Gideon and his crew found the cure to the Drakh plague. And this is further confirmed in the fourth season episode, "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars" in which evolved human beings left Earth to escape its destruction when its sun went nova. The question is, HOW did they find it? And what is the fate of Gideon and his crew? We know that Lochley and Galen are okay because they're going to be featured in The Lost Tales. Perhaps we will found out through them. That being said, after The Lost Tales is released on DVD, would everyone like to see the Crusade series completed with a series of direct-to-DVDs or would everyone like to see Gideon and Garibaldi team up with Lochley in a story that takes place after Crusade/The Lost Tales? Personally, I would prefer the latter because I've always enjoyed the chemistry between Gideon and Lochley.
