I read this short novel sometime around 1994 or 1995. I don't remember the title, and I would really appreciate it if someone could help. Here are the details of the short novel that I remember:
The protagonist is a teenage boy. I think his name might have been Tito, but I am not sure if that name is correct.
Anyway, one day, he finds a small round device with a dial on it. He experiments with the device, and he discovers that by turning the dial he can teleport backwards and forwards in time. One of the first things he does with the device is to use it to play a trick on some bullies.
As he plays with the device and grows to understand it more and more, he meets one of his future selves, who warns him against abusing the device. Not heeding the advice very carefully, he starts using the power of the device in ways that can be considered abusive.
Then, he encounters his adult self, who has become a powerful and evil man and who is collecting items from past and present, including copies of the device from other times. Having a change of heart, the protagonist now resolves to stop his evil future self and to prevent himself from becoming that evil self.
At the very end of the book, fleeing from his evil self, he travels millions of years into past, to the prehistoric time when the device first came to Earth, dropped by aliens, in order to stop his evil self and prevent himself from ever coming into possession with the device.
From that information, can someone please help me identify the title and author of the book? I've been trying to do so for years and have not yet succeeded.
