It has begun.
Rather different from the book in some places. Probably shouldn't have re-read, it's spoiling it a bit. I can't help but focus on the differences.
Good, though. Really captured the spirit of Hogswatch. What does everyone else think?

Jealoses quietly in the backgound; here's hoping that someone's recorded it for me (crosses toes)

Good boy, Pep, good boy. Now, we sensible people can discuss it.
Nobby wasn't nearly ugly enough. Got the 'the suggestion hung in the air with its hand out' down pretty well, though.

I've not read the book, so I can't compare it. I thought it was amazing and I can't wait for tonight. Does anyone know who the narrator is??

I thought it was the guy who played Death's voice, but I'm not sure.
I can't wait for tonight either. Spoilers from the book are probaly irrelevent, but just in case -

*SPOILERS*

I can't wait for the cheerful fairy to show up. I can, however wait a very long time to see Ridcully in the shower again *shudder*

*SPOILER OVER*

if you search for narrator hogfather sky on google, the first website to come up is chron :D

sorry, no idea. I can't get onto imdb though, its probably on there.

by the way, there are loads of jokes i missed from the hogfather, kindly explained here The Annotated Pratchett File v9.0 - Hogfather
I feel stupid after reading these things :p
I'll have to watch the movie thing and see how much the narration covers the footnotes and silly definitions!

I saw it and loved it! I especially liked David Jason as Albert, and Marc Warren's portrayal of Mr Teatime (such a freaky laugh). :D

I wished I'd taped it, I hope they release it on DVD later on. Can't wait for the concluding part tonight. :)

Same here.

Did anyone see the blurb in the programme listings? Well, there are probably a lot around, but the one i saw got nearly everything wrong.

It went a bit like this:
David Jason stars (isn't he the sidekick?)... blahblahblah... this year the hogfather has an unwelcome companion, Death. (do they ever even meet?).

and so on, it was terrible. By the way, do death's hands ever move?

i was bored, to be honest. not too bored that i won't watch the rest, as there's nothing else on, but bored enough that i went upstairs and played on the pc and missed 5 minutes and didn't care

granted those 5 minutes were the minutes where whatever happened to the hogfather happened, so i have no idea what went on there. next thing i knew, death was going about doing his thing, but yeah. slow start, not very interesting, for me. and i don't get it. i've not read prachett, (except for good omens) i won't now, because it doesn't appeal to me, and i just don't get bits of it

spoilers for those who haven't seen it

why did that susan woman (i keep calling her sophie) have a vision of the bone castle? that seemed a bit contrived and too useful for me.
why do whatever the wizards think would be a useful god/fairy type thing suddenly come into existance? (the hangover guy and the verccua fairy?)

don't get it

DO fancy marc warren as teatime tho. just have a thing abotu glass eyed, mixmatched eyes, whitish hair, evil ness. and they were all there in one :) but otherwise, *shrug* indifference from me

also spoilers!

The vision thing is one thing that immediately sets susan apart from normal people, she remembers the future (something that death can do), and its a foreshadowing part for the rest of the book.
The old saying "words have power", and wizards being more magically powerful than other people, making the idea that if a wizard says something, it might just happen. And with the spare "belief" from the hogfather floating around, there's a potential energy waiting to be harnessed. On the discworld, science is replaced by magic.
Mark Warren apparently borrowed a lot of jonny depp's mannerisms from willy wonka :)

I so know.

Not that I watched Willy Wonka or anything...
Oh, all right, I did, but Jonny Depp! Need I say more?

D'you remember when Ridcully couldn't swear because he was creating things? 'DARN THEM ALL TO HECK!' Lol. I think it was in Sourcery.

Watched the second part last night. I found it a bit slower than the first, but enjoyed in nonetheless. I loved the scene where Death gave Susan a Hogswatch card. :D

It's supposed to be coming out on DVD in the UK some time before Easter as I understand it - see the following Amazon UK page for (a very few) more details. Will only be a region 2 DVD though - so will only play in UK, Europe, and a few other places.

Amazon.co.uk: The Hogfather (region 2 DVDs are playable in the whole of Europe, not just the UK): DVD

Nice, I'll get that when it's out. :)
