What wha? Even Jaime admitted he was a lesser knight than Dayne and Hightower. I know being a knight and being a swordsman are different things but Jaime is the best swordsman of this generation, the Knights of Legend are a different matter entirely.

That being said....I voted for Jaime....

Aegon voted for the Kingslayer?!?!

All I have to say is... well, don't you remember... Barristan freakin' Selmye!!!

My gut tells me Ser Barristan would have so much righteous indignation built up to fight the Kingslayer that this duel would last less than thirty seconds.

Anyone remember the Mike Tyson vs. Marvis Frazier fight? Frazier, the son of Smokin' Joe and a very capable fighter in his own right, was being groomed to someday take the heavyweight crown, while Tyson was this wild boy that Cus D'Amato had found. The two came out and after the first exchange Frazier took to his heels, literally running in circles while Tyson sprinted after him. Seconds later Tyson caught his prey and gave him an upper cut that seemed to launch Frazier into the air. Knocked out, but still on his feet, Frazier took several more punches from Tyson before his lifeless boddy could sink to the mat. Tyson was eighteen or nineteen at the time and full of righteous indignation that the noble son of Joe Frazier might inherit his father's crown while the poor, fatherless, unwanted kid would be relegated back to the gutter.

Frazier had all the training, all the teachers, all the equipment, good speed, good power and yet none of it mattered a whit.

Just some thoughts, I'll think more and vote later.

You know Boaz....Im gonna cry foul......I spelled Selmy correctly.

Just because I loathe the Kingslayer doesnt mean I dont respect his prowess.....

Thanks for the Tyson reset....we forget how truly memorable his skill set was. Every once in a while theyll show old Tyson fights on ESPN and he would literally walk in and beat his opponent down in less time than it took me to type this.

Is that directed at me TK? I think I defended Selmy against your vote of the Hound....but Jaime is a dog of different breed or something like that. The Hound is a butcher, not a swordsman. Selmy would eat him alive, but Lannister was/is regarded as the finest swordsman in the kingdom. While I assure you Barristan is the cream of the Westerosi crop, so is Jaime. I voted for the Kingslayer because of his skills, not because Barristan freakin Selmy lacks any.

Oh and whomever comes out of the other bracket is gonna dice Jaime like an underripe tomato.

I do enjoy cranberry sauce with my crow, especially during the holidays.

While I disagree with your assessment of the Hound, I agree that Barristan the Bold is no slouch. But, in the end what really counts is that we are happy together (for the moment anyways) in agreeing that Jaime would win this one. Must be that holiday cheer we were "bragging" about in that other thread.

Okay, I'm here. But I still have not voted.

Both are classically trained in Westerosi/Andalish knighthood. Both are at the peak of their powers. Both are fast, strong, and confident. Both have the finest equipment, but notice that neither have Valyrian Steel... perhaps if I'd thought of that, I might have voted for Ned... perhaps that was Ned's secret to killing Arthur Dayne. It must be noted that Arthur also had Valyrian Steel, but being outnumbered two to one possibly allowed Ned to sneak in the killing blow. So in conclusion, I think I've just decided my vote for the finale.

Wait! This was supposed to be about Belwas' squire and the Kingslayer! I love Jaime's redemption story... I know Jaime would not be nervous in any way, man, he's one cool cat with a blade... Jon thought Jaime was the king when he rode into Winterfell... but, if they fought ten times, Barristan would win eight, at least.

Well, Jaime did have Valyrian steel at one point - if we take the 'at their peak' rule to it's extremes, do we place that blade in his right hand?

And Dayne's Dawn ain't Valyrian steel. Just close to it.

Jamie is one of my favorites, I have taken several days to consider this and I just can not find a flaw in the "Barristan freakin Selmy" argument. I mean that real does cover all aspects. So I vote for a righteously angry Selmy.

Cully, Dawn is not Valyrian Steel? Hmmmm.

Look, it's not out of the realm of impossibility that I'm wrong; it's been known to happen from time to time. But I think you'll find Dawn is forged from the ore of a meteorite that fell from the heavens many years ago, at the birth of House Dayne. Hence 'Starfall'. It's not Valyrian steel, but it does approximate it. As I said.

EDIT: Just tried to find the pertinent info on westeros.org, but my crappy internet connection foiled me. I'm sure it's there, though...

Cully, good job. Now is this alien metal better than Valyrian Steel?

Barristan, I expected nothing less.

Mr Selmy had to Face : The Mountain, Robert, The Hound and the Kingslayer to get to the finals.

Mr Dayne had to face: Euron Greyjoy, Brienne, Victarion GJ and Syrio

Interesting Each fought 2 family members.
