Adam Roberts

I've never heard of him before...

I know of a Nora Roberts though.

From something someone mentioned on librarything sounds like another of those authors that is only published in the UK.

Here, we don't have that market protectionism, so to speak, so get UK and US books, so could be why he is not as familiar to people (apart from being newish).

I've got (& read) Salt but I didn't think that much of it.
It was ok, not great and didn't inspire me to go looking for any of his other work.

Thanks for the link JD. Seems to enjoy his parodies doesn't he?

I've read Stone, and quite enjoyed it, but not enough for me to go out and buy more of his books yet. So, pretty decent I suppose, but not right up there with the best...

I read Salt. It was very good, but not at all what I expected. I expected a Dune-style novel from the synopsis - a new colony established on a world where the main resource is Salt. But the conflicts aren't really to do with resources, they focus on the different politics and cultures of the groups of colonists. By having view points from both the Senaar and the Als, it gives some really interesting perspectives.

Salt wasn't an easy book at all, but it was worth perservering with. Roberts strikes me as a remarkably intelligent author though.

Deary me! I have one of Adam Robert's books on my shelf and I didn't even know about it, but he wrote it under another name, A.R.R Roberts.

Some of you may recall The Soddit and Barry trotter, the parody version of the Hobbit and Harry Potter.

Apparently, he writes seriously under the name Adam Roberts.

I don't know why, but I always get confused between him and Rob Grant, the guy who wrote Red Dwarf... bizarre, eh?

wow! Well spotted :)

edit: I ordered "salt" off amazon for 1p :D (+ delivery)

1p? And to think I paid almost full price for my copy. Ah well, it was worth it.
