I have been taking some tantalizing steps into the world of post-apocalyptic fiction, with Iron and Wolf and The World Ends in Hickory Hollow. I really enjoyed them and would appreciate if anyone could recommend some similar books. Oh and I prefer books with one, or few, central characters.

Battlefield Earth - L. Ron Hubbard

I know, I know - but it's worth reading just so you can criticise it from personal experience, if you want to. Actually I quite enjoyed it, in an extremely non-demanding way. And you can't get much more post-apocalyptic than this.:p

I'd also mention Pat Frank's Alas, Babylon, which was pretty good, but I'd agree with A Canticle for Leibowitz, which is the best post-apocalyptic novel I've read.

Thats good to hear as I brought it the other day for 95p in hardback from the charity shop. Got to love peoples christmas gift clearouts :D

Actually read Armageddon's Children yesterday, not bad. Post-apocalyptic with the odd elf and demon, it seems. :)

Pretty groovy list!
Thats good to hear as I was worried Terry was going to bring out a series akin to the High Druid trilogy. Hopefully he is back on form.

Several people have told me that I should read Davy by Edgar Pangborn, raving that it is equal in genius to Miller's Canticle for Leibowitz. Have any of you read it?
