need help on title/aouthor of a moonbase book

I read a book in the early to mid 90s cant think of the title or author but the story goes something like this

there is a soviet sattlight orbiting the moon and it misteriously blows up due to an object hitting it form the serface of the dark side of the moon later the main chaircter of the book finds out there is a secret moon base on the moon that has existed since the apllo missions ans the soviets also finally figure it out from the last transmission photos from there sattelight the main chaircter goes to the moon to help out the aged scientests aginst a heavly trained soviet commando force

i also remember the only weapon the scientests have is a 22 cal rifle that was used for experments they used i belive there last rocket aginst the sattelight which you latter discover was not unmaned like previously thought

any help would be greatly appreseated

I know this book, though I am afraid that I cannot remember the title or author. I think can remember the cover of the edition I read if that helps, blue with a picture of a satellite being hit by a red beam. I think they have a copy in the library at home, if you get an inkling of the title try putting it through the ELAN catalogue (Essex Libraries Automated Network), can be found using google.
