Here's a chat where I attempted to explain the premise for our lexicon game to Caladan Brood, a little better than in my rather opaque precis :

well the game itself is a bit involved...

we are a group of cantankerous scholars compiling a reference work ona historical event

in this case, in the year 3150 (or something), humanity made first contact with alein life
JP:
which turned out to be very similar to us
CB:

and there was this sort of world religion
JP:
which underwent a split
JP:
some believed that the aliens were gods and made us in their image (Xenotheists)

others, that the gods made both us and the aliens elsewhere and depisted us in seperate worlds (Exogenists)

and the factions went to war

makes as much sense as any holy war, i trust

and there were several martyrs in these conflicts

but each side, years later, claims many of the martyys for their own side

so the dictionary hopes to chronicle the doings of these amrtyrs and fgure out which sides they were on
