I have rediscovered Terry Pratchett....

I read Wyrd Sisters years ago and couldn't get into it...now after watching Hogfather, I went to the library and raided the novels they'd got.

The Colour of Magic
The Fifth Elephant
Interesting Times
Hogfather
Small Gods
Men at Arms
Maskerade

I've been having a ball......:D

Will start filling my shelves with his books....it's a good job Hay-On-Wye isn't too far from me.

You lucky person, you!:p Wish I could read them for the first time, again!:(

Congratulations!

Once you've got a flat disc-shaped planet to go to, you'll never want to go back to that boring orb called Earth ;)

-D

I've recently started on Discworld. I admit that when I first started reading The Light Fantastic, I couldn't immediately get into it...but I stuck with it and I'm very glad that I did, because I absolutely love the series now! (I'm working along the Rincewind thread, I'm currently on Eric!)

I got half of em and read 'em all (except the maps and quiz books and whatnot.)
And I haven't read where's my cow yet...

Long live the discworld creator! (and his egg and cress sandwitch creations)

Thank you!!

I'm reading Men at Arms at the mo.....and the bit where Sargent Colon is training the new recruits just had me in stitches....I haven't laughed so much in ages.

Good for you, they're great books. :D I'm jealous you live so close to Hay-On-Wye. I went there once and it was like paradise. :D

I'm really lucky.. I have the Elan Valley one way and Hay the other...must go buy more...have ran out of TP books:(

I have this bad habit of buying any books a person recommends, and somewhere in past years I bought a good load of T.P. books without so much as touching them. I don't remember some of the titles off-hand, but I did sift through the first few pages of Small Gods (don't know where that falls in the chronology) and I wasn't overly impressed to begin with, probably why I never bothered with going back and reading from the beginning. Maybe it's time...

Small gods is a good book about Terry's point of view of the rise of deities and the power of belief :p
Keep in mind that it's set in a world where belief has power, and that reflects our world in that the inhabitants take it all seriously (as its where they live).

They are lovely books and can be read on so many different levels. They fit different moods and I find myself picking up one or the other every so often. Admittedly I pick up one with Death more often than any of the others and I really do like Moo! So do my little cousins, which is an added bonus. ;) Lucky you indeed Steffi. :)

Small Gods is not really part of the overall arc of the books, doesn't feature any of the main characters and is generally regarded as an oddity among the Discworld books. Can I refer you to this, which was posted a while ago by Weaveworld, and several people have found useful?

The categories tend to blur a bit as the series continues - for example, the Watch turn up in both Monstrous Regiment and Going Postal, but not as main characters, and Death is in just about all of the main series.

Hope this helps!:D

Thanks Pyanfaruk. I was in the process of asking Google when your post came up. I'm introducing a friend to Discworld and so I gave her one book from each of the main character categories (Mort, Equal Rites, Guards! Guards!, The Colour of Magic and Small Gods).

She is now hooked and has decided she wants to read them based on the main character featured as opposed to in order of writing. This list is awesome. Here a cape of feathers and a big hug.
:)

I'm now reading Wee Free Men, don't you just love 'em :D

I also enjoyed Small Gods...

People keep lending me TP books..it's brill
