Sorry if this has been a topic before, but i couldn't find it so here we go. In flight of the nighthawks at the beginning when caleb is mortally wounded he's helped by a witch who says she's in dept to both him, his father and a friend of his father. Who is she?? i couldn't figure it out and the answer will probably make me feel really stupid but what the heck. Question number two what's up with the royal line of the kingdom. I mean in talon of the silver hawk we have king Ryan and prince Matthew and in flight of the nighthawks suddenly there's King (!) Patrick and prince James (or that's his name in the dutch books at least). Bit confused here. Anyway i'd really appreciate some help here :)

well the kingdom is very political, at one point king rodric and prince erland was on the throne and within weeks or months both were gona and replaced by Prince Arutha and King Lyam and they were of a differant house of royalty, so thing change quickly. I also think there was a Prince Robby in those books somewhere. also there are many princes, i think the highest count came when prince arutha had his children i think there was 6 that we know of [pug arutha nicky borric erland and patrick shortly after]. With that being said not every prince sits the throne in Krondor. About the king i cant remember or explain away. normally the king sits the throne until his death because once your king noone can remove you in theory. the time span between talon and flight of nighthawks is many years id like to say so who knows. and isnt that witch Gert?

Arutha had four children, Borric, Erland the girls name slips my mind for moment and Nicholas. Patrick was Arutha's grandson, can't remember if he's Borric or Erland's son.

Normally the heir to the throne is Prince of Krondor

borrics because borric was king when he sent patrick to krondor and it made a referance to him being his father when pug blew up at him. And Elena was Arutha's daughter, i remember that because thats my sisters name. and yes the hier is always the prince of krondor, maybe not direct hier through father and son but hier none the less. and the princes that do not sit the throne[erland, nicky(he did for a year i think but not long) and pug] are just refered to as Princes of the Realm.

The Prince of Krondor is only the heir to the throne if the current King has no heirs....otherwise the Prince of Krondor is the Heir Presumptive...

The Prince of Krondor's duty is to rule the Western Realm accepting general orders from the King who rules the Eastern Realm.

The only reason that two Brothers of the Western Realm ended up being King in Rilannon and Kronder was the riftwar...

I'm pretty sure Patrick and James are king and prince of the western realms wheras Ryan and Matthew are king and prince of Roldem (or somewhere similar) which is a seperate kingdom :)

I've just read TotSH and Ryan and Matthew are definitely king and prince in the Kingdom. King Carol is the king in Roldem. I'm afraid its just one of these many errors in the timescales in the later books so you'll have to say that Ryan is King in FotN as well! :)

What about Erik Von Darkmoor. In King of Foxes, he is described as in his late seventies, but the end of the Serpentwar was only thirty years back as Kaspar said. Erik wasn't late forties at the end of that, more like middle twenties ;)

Patrick and James are Western Nobles and Ryan and Matthew are Eastern Nobles I believe, both part of the Kingdom but basically separate countries...

Sometimes you get Western Nobles becoming King in the east because of lack of heirs or something....I'll read up and find out properly though...

Ok here's what I found out...

Ryan: is the Son of Patrick which would make him a Western Noble, and was never a prince in Kronder, however became King in Rillanon, his cousin Robert became Prince of Krondor...

Ryans the only noble I found out about...

Thought i'd put in a good quote: This is where Bek and Nakor go to Kesh.

Nakor: 'I came here first years ago with Borric and Ghuda...'
Bek: 'So what are we planning on doing?'
Nakor: 'Same thing as last time... crashing a party!'

Found that funny. No idea why i just put this in but i feel very bored at the moment.

I found that funny when I read that too, just making me remember Nakor dancing about and dodging the guards last time.

After reading Rise of a merchant prince I came across this ...

(Nicholas talking)"...The navy of Roldem captured one a few years ago." Roldem was a small island kingdomto the east of the kingdom of the isles that was a longtime ally. "The king of Roldem has agreed to..."

I cant remember and don't have the book with me but I thought Price Matthew was in Roldem and that was why Tal got banished after humiliating him?

There was a Matthew in Roldem and in Krondor but Fiest did mention a Prince Robert in Krondor in later books so we have to assume he's made one of characteristic mistakes again :D
