When Stargate changed for me

Has Stargate changed for you since you first started watching it? Is it better or worse and when do you think it happened?
For me, Stargate changed when they got rid of Jacob/Selmak and then George Hammond. I am sure that they could both be brought back, into either Stargate or Atlantis. Personally speaking, I haven't been enjoying it as much since they started the Ori storyline. To me, the Wraith seem a better enemy.

As a family we're only up to series 6 and still enjoying it but we're all in agreement that the writing of season 2 was far ahead of any of the others.

Stargate definitely changed since the first time I started watching it. It was getting worse, but fortunately I think it is picking back up in season ten. Unfortunately, seeing as the show is cancelled it's somewhat bittersweet.

There were several times I felt Stargate SG1 had "jumped the shark". I think it started in season six, but then picked up a little. Not as great as in the earlier seasons, but still good. Then again when they started loosing main characters very near and dear to my heart - the first being Janet, then Jacob/Selmak, and Hammond... and even somewhat Jack... to eventually Jack.

I hadn't enjoyed the Ori storyline as well, but I think halfway into the season it warmed up a little to me. I'm still not a huge fan of the Ori throughline, but what can you do...

I think the Ori throughline seems like a great idea in theory, but I don't think it has been executed as well as it could be. As for the Wraith, I like them as an enemy as well though we haven't really been seeing much of them lately.

Well that's a worrying post. Doesn't sound as though I have much to look forward to!

No worries. It's just different. Personally I don't think its as great as it used to be, but it's still really good. And like I said, it seems to be picking up again. Of the season ten episodes I've seen, it's beginning to look a little better. And even though season ten will be the last, theres still the 2 movies as well as the 3rd series spinoff. And heck, theres always Stargate Atlantis.

Palooka, You said you're in 6? You still have a whole 4 more to go. Although seasons 7-10 as a whole might not be my personal favorite compared to seasons 1-4, there are some really great episodes in the later seasons - some stand alones, some throughlines. It also depends on your tastes. It can all be subjective. All we can do now is sit back, watch and give it a chance, and keep and open mind. Hope you enjoy the rest of Stargate SG1. :)

I completely agree with you, PhiloSCIFI. Palooka, you should enjoy Stargate. I hope I haven't spoiled it too much for you with my opinions.:)

Oh, no doubt we'll watch it and enjoy it. I think it would take George Lucas to ruin it so far it was unenjoyable. It would just have been nice if it had ever got back up to the standard of season 2.

It's officially the longest running Science fiction TV series. There are bound to be a few clinkers in with the gold nuggets. I agree with all the above comments regarding the loss of characters and the Ori storyline, but I can't put a finger on the show ever 'jumping the shark', it just has slowly gone off the boil. There are some very good episodes in the the last few seasons. Which of them you like depends on personal taste too, there are many different kinds of stories told.
