3.11: The Eye of Jupiter

Re: Season 3 general discussion, with spoilers

Theyve been almost interchanging the Greek and Roman deities with impunity.....in the last episode I saw the mention "Cow-Eyed Hera" (Greek) and the Eye of Jupiter (Roman) about 22 secs apart....I dont know what it means only I find it odd.

The boxing episode aside (hooey is the word I thought of). Is anybody else completely grossed out by the Starbuck/Apollo romance? I mean two years ago she was so in love with his brother she compromised her integrity, and now here she is scrogging the brother like he's her one true love. Its just gross.

I would have been eminently more happy if the writers had avoided the inevitable Starpollo coupling. Maybe have them have some sort of wartime sexual release and immediately regret it, but this is just ridiculous.

Re: Season 3 general discussion, with spoilers

Is there a connection between the five in the Temple of Five (the Eye of Jupiter temple) and the final five Cylon types?

I'm disappointed that Baltar is ditching Caprica Six in favor of the religiously bent D'Anna Three. But I guess that's always Baltar's MO: go for personal power and aggrandizement.

I'm liking Anders this season. There's something upright and honorable about him that's coming across this season, whereas I didn't much care for him last season.

And even though I've been rooting for Starbuck and Apollo to get together, I will admit that I dislike how she seems to get off on "bending the rules" of marriage--as if she's not so much hot for Apollo as hot for hurting everyone (him, herself, Anders, and Dualla).

Re: Season 3 general discussion, with spoilers

lately Starbuck makes me wanna root for the cylons.

my main complaint about the cylons is they let baltar walk around with no shirt on way too much.

Re: Season 3 general discussion, with spoilers

Um yeah, it should be someone with better pecs, like Sam or Apollo (when he isn't fat). Seriously, I think James Callis is doing a brilliant job as Baltar.

Starbuck and Apollo seriously annoy me, I feel so sorry for Dualla and Anders, even though some say Dualla's getting what she deserves for her treatment of Billy in the first season. I admit I disagree on that, Billy wanted a deeper relationship and she didn't. At least she had the decency to turn down Billy's proposal...

Re: Season 3 general discussion, with spoilers

There are lots of beautiful women on that show but Dualla was really the first to catch my eye. She’s just breathtaking. I think they purposely “nerdize” or put her in unflattering clothes and stuff for the role. What really turned me against Starbuck was the remark she laughingly made to Apollo: “You’re not still fracking Dualla, are you?” This was some horrible elitists crap, as if Dualla didn’t count for some reason. I.E. she wasn’t a viper pilot or not blond enough to be a legitimate partner etc. . . I understand that it was probably actually coming from a place of hurt for Starbuck but it was just really mean and now she has some redeeming to do. Dualla deserves better and if she was really paying attention maybe she should have turned down Apollo’s proposal. We often can tell when a partner isn’t 100% there even if we don’t want to admit it. I would bet that if I had to live with my entire home planet destroyed and everyone back there gone forever, I’m sure I wouldn’t make the best emotional choices. So many have put on a brave face but it would interesting to see an episode where someone just breaks down because they never really processed the horror of the cylon nuke attack.

Maybe it is getting to be a soap, but so what?! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting wrapped up in the characters personal lives; that’s what a good story does.

Excellent point about why people are making bad emotional choices, Scott! And I like your idea for a "somebody breaks down" episode. (Gee, here's a situation in which Deanna Troi might actually be useful . . . Oops. Sorry for trashing the Counselor. :) )

Starbuck hasn't been right since that one Cylon told her that the little girl was her child.

Interesting observation, Wolfgirl! Starbuck definitely seemed like she was enjoying the girl and feeling a bit maternal when she protected the child and brought her back to Galactica, so "losing" her to the girl's real mother must have wrenched Starbuck's emotions around.

I guess when I'm feeling irritated with Starbuck, I should remember that she spent months imprisoned by Leoban, who messed with her mind, warping her notions of family and husband. Yes, she ran from Apollo and married Anders before being imprisoned by Leoban, so I still fault her for that act of cruelty toward both those men--but Leoban's mental torture must be causing some of her current unattractive behavior toward Apollo and Anders. (How many times did she kill Leoban, her would-be husband? And now she's cuckolding her legal husband and treating her lover like meat.)
