This is a companion thread to the one I started on the Ballantine series. I've not been able to lay my hands on all of this series, but I've got a few. However, I'd be very interested in input from anyone who has read any of these, or has the entire set... in general, just discussion of the same sort mentioned there:

The Haunted Bibliophile- Newcastle Forgotten Fantasy Library

(It is interesting -- and useful, for those collecting -- to note that, though 26 volumes were planned, only 24 were ever released.)

Wow, what a a list , theres a few books there I've never read or heard of. :)

I would rate David Lindsay's The Haunted Woman highly.

I'm a fan of Rider Haggard -- though I find some of his books don't hold my interest*; but the Newcastle choices seem to be overall pretty good. I've read all of the ones issued by the NFF except The Spirit of Bambatse, which I have as a Project Gutenberg printout of bound sheets, published as Benita. Maybe I will read it this summer. I had a copy of the NFF issue of Dunsany's Food of Death but wasn't sufficiently interested in it as to keep it; same with Newbolt's Aladore.

*Not too long ago I made a start on Pearl-Maiden, but didn't manage to finish it. There are one or two others I have abandoned. However, that's out of 30 or more Haggard books that I have finished! And I've reread several of them.

Here's a thread I started for fun:

And the Blackgate folks are continuing to publish retrospective looks at Ballantine series books:

Ballantine Fantasy Series retrospective begins

The current discussion there is on Rider Haggard's The People of the Mist:
