Ok,
Possibly it's the early onset of senility (very early as I'm nought but a wee bairn ) but I remember a series of books printed in the 80s by Del Rey usually called [blank]of the Horselords, e.g. "War of the Horselords", "Rise of the Horselords" etc
The basic premise of the series was that there were this very long-lived/immortal characters who were ruling over a mongol-type society set hundreds/thousands of years after somekind of Armageddon. The books dealt with how they interacted with each other and their subjects and their eventual falling out and civil wars between 'tribes'.
Ringing any bells with anyone? They definitely all have Horselords in the title but the only books I can find online refer to a Forgotten Realms series, which this most certainly wasn't.
Any help gratefully received
