great article, especially cool so see someone apply these market changing circumstances to the future of publishing. Maybe the publishing corporates will be more forward than the music industry in embracing the change and trust in people.
The piece is actually from 2002 (although I picked it up from a link in a more recent blog post), so some of stuff it mentions is out of date -- kazaa, for example. Still, O'Reilly makes a number of good points.
One of the things I love about the ever expanding and redefining nature of the internet is the cyclic nature of the information available. I am sure at the time it was probably met with dis-interest, but these things have a habit of coming round and biting us on the arse!
Amazing to think that these real issues are only just starting to be taken seriously 5 years later.
