looking for a book from Junior High.

I'm looking for title from my middle school years. I'm wanting to buy a copy for my niece. It involves a unicorn(coming of age story) who doesn't fit in with the herd because of his unusual color. Normal parental angst, as I remember. He, the unicorn, battles a dragon-like creature simply called "the wyrm" i think. He finds himself as an invidiaul, and the battle leaves him a black coat, which ultimately fulfills some unicorn prophecy? I also the title had something to do with fire bringer, starter, etc. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
