When I was growing up I was a fan of the show. However, when the Sci-Fi Channel aired the show back in 1992, I was surprised at how cheesy it was. Most of the episodes were poorly written, the show strayed away from its dark premise and became a "planet/alien of the week" premise. The show is not worth doing a sequel after the final episode, "The Hand of God".
With that in mind, I've recently learned that Glen Larson is considering doing a remake rather than a continuation movie. One of the main reasons is because he does not want to continue the story without the character of Adama. Another reason is because he always wanted the original series to be darker, but was forced to make it more family oriented because the ABC network put censors on it.
I think it would be cool to have Larson cast Richard Hatch as the new Commander Adama and Dirk Benedict as the new Commander Cain. Both actors are aging quite well and are relatively young. In addition, they are at that age where they are capable of commanding a Battlestar. It's better to forget about the original series and let Larson do a remake in the way he always wanted to do: without the censors imposed heavily by ABC.
What does everybody else thinks?
