I copied this from the Interzone board but emasculated the e mail address as I don't want the blame for any spam.

Just to mention to everyone that Derby's Alt.Fiction event will be taking place again in 2007. The event takes place on Saturday 28th April at the Darwin Suite, Assembly Rooms with doors opening at 11am and session running throughout the day from 12pm to 9pm.

This year's event features a great array of talent including Iain M Banks, Mike Carey, Harry Harrison, Ramsey Campbell, Graham Joyce, Peter F Hamilton, Stephen Gallagher and many, many more!!

For more details on the event you can visit the Alt.Fiction webpage at altfiction or if you'd like to get in touch for further details feel free to do so at alex (dot) davis (at) derby (dot) gov (dot) uk

Hopefully I'll see some of you there!!

Many Thanks

Alex Davis

Hi All,

Thanks a lot to Roy for the initial post. I thought this would be a good opportunity to follow up with some further details.

The Alt.Fiction event takes place on April 28th at the Darwin Suite, Assembly Rooms, Derby. Doors open at 11am for a 12 o'clock start and sessions runs from 12pm until 9pm with a dinner/book buying break from 4:45pm until 6pm. There are almost 40 authors, editors and publishers appearing at the event with tickets offering you access to nearly 30 sessions across 4 rooms!! The day is packed with fantastic talent from opening to closing and I'm thrilled with this year's line-up.

You can check out the latest schedule for the day at www.derby.gov.uk/altfiction or if you'd like to discuss further you can contact me at alex (dot) davis (at) derby (dot) gov (dot) uk. Alternatively feel free to give me a call on 01332 715434.

Hopefully I will see some of you there!!

Many Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

Welcome to Chronicles! Already booked a ticket for Altfiction so I look forward to catching up with you there.

You'll find me in the bar, closeted somewhere with Andew Hook and Chaz Brenchley, signing hundreds of signature sheets. :(

But I will be coming to the panels too! :)

Looks like a great event. Congratulations.

Yep, I shall be there too - doing a panel with Mssrs Hook, Crowther and Wright.

Should be fun. *hic*

Any particular reason Ian, or just some kind of literary fetish? ;)

Now that would be telling! ;) Okay, so why not tell? It's all to do with a new signed, limited edition anthology I'm putting together, called disLOCATIONS -- a follow up to the current Time Pieces.

This time around, in addition to those mentioned, it has original stories from Brian Stableford, Ken MacLeod, Pat Cadigan, Adam Roberts, Hal Duncan, Amanda Hemmingway and others. Should be out in the summer.

Did I get a copy of the first one? If not, then bring a copy along to Derby... I'm open to a spot of bartering as opposed to cold, hard cash. :D

Derby is such an awfully difficult place to travel to - certainly from near Inverness. :)

Just booked my travel last night:
Fri: Taxi to Inverness airport, fly to East Midlands, bus to Derby. No probs.
Sun: Train to Birmingham airport, fly to Aberdeen, taxi to Dyce station, train to Nairn, taxi back home. Ouch! Adds another 4 hours to the journey.

Now to book the hotel...

How we suffer for our art, Brian (sigh). Look forward to seeing you there! :)

Anyone any hotel recommendations?

I think I stayed at the Midland Hotel last time, but it's showing as booked up over the weekend.

Any alternatives? Any suggestions aside from the Midland where others are staying?

Wish I could help, Brian, but being a mean so-and-so, I'm driving there and back the same day (about 2 hours each way), so know zilch about the hotel situation. Sorry. :(

It's okay - just ran a search and eventually booked in at athe Legacy Ashton Hotel, as it's right next to the railway station and so should be pretty easy to get to and from for the travel. I hope. :)

(taxi to the Assembly Rooms, though)
