Music plays a big part of any film, and anime is no different. So, then, what's the best soundtrack you've heard to any anime film or series?

For me, it's definitely Cowboy Bebop. Well, I rather like the ending theme to Ghost in the Shell - Standalone Complex, too.

Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal had this great track that was so sad and poignant and which I thought elevated the overall tone of the OAV.

I'd haveta go with Escaflowne.. The music for that anime truely set the mood for all the scenes.

Cowboy Bebop definitely has a very standout ST. I also love the background score for Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira.

Cowboy Bebop is way better the rest i have heard and seen.Heh i still listen to Tank! almost daily in my MP3 player and always go "drem drem" when i listen it :)

I'll get the chance to see Wolf's Rain again tonight when it's shown on the Anime Central channel. I remember it as being quite good, but I'd like to refresh my memory.:)

I love Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell !!! All Yoko Kanno's works are great.
Also music from Appleseed impressed me a lot..such as <Dive for you>

Cowboy Bebop: it has really good jazz; I listen to the tracks as stand-alone works. Yoko Kanno is very versatile and seems to be able to compose in any style. A rule of thumb is that any series with here music is usually good, and at worst, mediocre :)

Very true - I've heard a lot of her music in various shows, and I'm really impressed.

Oh, and in case I haven't said it before, welcome to the Chronicles, MinasTirithGuard!:)

I just wanted to mention two anime soundtracks that have impressed me. The first is an old favorite and the second, a somewhat new discovery. Both by the way come by this little studio called Gainax. The first is Kare Kano which had catchy OP and ED songs as well as some frenetically fun and melancholic melodies for background music.

The second anime is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, a turbo charged, adrenalin pumping mecha anime whose soundtrack aptly reflects the shows exuberance. It also has this great OP song called Sorairo Days that I can't help humming out of the blue.
