Diana Wynne Jones, is the marvellous author of the Chrestomanci series which started 30 years ago.

I bought my eldest (10 years old) a copy of The Pinhoe Egg for her birthday. She's has read some of this authors previous books and so she was looking forward to reading it.

Kate sent me an email a few days later to say The Pinhoe Egg is a 'cool' story! I hope she lets me read it when she has finished. :)

I enjoyed it especially since it's A Chrestomanci story though in places it was a bit similar to other DWJ books. Still it's nice to see a story with Cat in again.

It's not the best she's written, but like all her books, it's excellant. I've just finsiehd rereading the Year of the Griffin. That one seems to imrpove on rereading. I love DWJ!

I asked Kate again how she was enjoying the book, how much she had read...unhappily she has started to find it 'boring'! I know she is up 2 grades in her reading at school but I didn't think this book was that easy to read.

I am now at a loss as to what books to get her..

Try the Charlie Bone series by Jenny Nimmo. Nimmo's earlier works had a magical system that seemed closer to they DWJ writes them, but the Charlie Bone ones work on a talent system with a touch of the Potter's to it =3

Thank you for that Azure...I'll have a look into Nimmo's work :)
