Melanie Nilles
SFF Writer
Has anyone here read Rachel Vater's blog? As an agent she has a lot to say. Personally, I keep up with hers, Kristin Nelson's, and Miss Snark. Rachel had a hooks submission going a few weeks ago that was quite interesting and informative, especially since she specializes in the SFF genres. Her personal opinions aside, there are some great tips in her blog for writing hooks. I'm not advertising for her, but want to let others know that there are some great resources out there, by the agents selling the books.
Now, if you want to see how your hooks stand up to criticism and if they are effective, Fangs, Fur, & Fey has a contest going. I won't post the details here, but if anyone's interested--besides me--you can find that info here: Fangs, Fur, & Fey--Urban Fantasy Novelists - Contest!. Entries will be accepted for a limited time--April 13-15.
Good luck to everyone who enters!
