From personal experience, being a high school student usually makes you cringe upon the thought of reading a book, let alone a science fiction book. But Ender’s Game isn’t a typical novel. It includes an entire array of tactics the author uses to make this unrealistic book fast paced and exciting. Ender Wiggin is considered to be the hero the future that world has been waiting for. He succeeds where others have failed. Even with his own set of challenges set up by teachers, fellow students of Battle School, and even his own two siblings; he excels to the top of the rankings in his school. But Ender’s journey doesn’t end there. He continues to further his accomplishments faster than anyone has ever imagined, and may end up hurting himself in the process.
Card’s unique writing style allows you to view the story as a third person, yet have the thoughts of Ender to guide you through the story better and more accurately. Each character seems to have their own problems within the book. Whilst Peter and Valentine, Ender’s siblings, help each other with their secret identities, Colonel Graff tends to be speeding up Ender’s training. Even if the author uses foreshadowing to keep the book alive, there are still new twists in every chapter and it keeps the reader guessing what will happen next. Though reading about kids having mock battles with each other and having the threat of aliens, the Buggers, attacking Earth is highly amusing entertainment, there are some downfalls to the book. Some parts of the story seem to go by slowly, and they are dragged out more then needed to be. As well as the book is revolved around politics, which took away from the main story plot. Some may enjoy that aspect of the book, but I did not. But other than those two things, it was a greatly written book.
People of all ages would enjoy this novel, though with such high and some graphic content, it appears that this book is intended for those who can understand and learn the meaning of it.
