Exactly what it says on the tin: The Lovecraft Reading Group!

I thought I'd make this thread so that a.) We'd stop diverting the other one! and b.) to make people aware of the group and let them express interest if they want to join in! And possibly c.) it gives the group a place to write about the stories once they've read them (unless individual threads will be made, I don't know!)

Anyway...HSF, I believe this was your (great) idea, so would you like to confirm the details for the first story?

Okay, I'll post this in both threads, for those who don't have a copy of the story. The best available text is in The Dreams in the Witch House and Other Weird Stories, a Penguin trade paperback, which is an annotated edition. For those who don't have access to that, or would prefer to just read the story and join the discussion, but don't like white type on black background (don't blame you, Hoops, and you might keep the following links in mind to save your eyes), there's this:

Dreams in the Witch-House by H. P. Lovecraft

and, for his works in general:

Index of /hp-lovecraft

Looks like fun. And I've already read that story. It's a good one. I'll refrain from comments until you guys finish reading it. And if you like, there's always a Del Rey version of Lovecraft stories. You could check those out. :D

Thanks J.d, that's a much better link than mine! I started seeing stripey afterimages when I tried reading the text that I found! :D

You're welcome, Hoops. As I mentioned in one of the other threads, this one also has his Supernatural Horror in Literature essay, plus links to many of the stories he discusses in there; so it's a wonderful way for those who wouldn't otherwise have access to these things to be able to partake and enjoy... and maybe get enough people in their area hooked to ... um... get the local stores to start ordering some of this stuff... maybe?:D

thanks for the link as I do not have this story. I am not a fan of reading a lot of text on screen as it seems to go for my eyes but this I read in one sitting with just a short break to make a cuppa

Pretty much the same here...thanks for the link, JD. You do lose a little reading on the screen rather than holding a book in your hands, but not too bad with a short story.

I've little patience reading the story text on the screen but still it all depends on the story's length. If it's a novel or novella length, forget it.

Can we cover a new story maybe Colour Out Of Space or Rats In The Walls going on votes from the other club thread??

I've just purchased the following book, becasue I'm a paper and ink rather than cyberspace kinda guy...:)

Tales Of HP Lovecraft , selected by Joyce Carol Oates incl. The Outsider, The Music Of Erich Zann, The Rats In The Walls, The Shunned House, The Call Of Cthulhu, Colour Out Of Space, The Dunwich Horror, At The Mountains Of Madness, The Shadow Over Innsmouth & The Shadow Out Of Time.

Sounds fine by my, GOLLUM. I've set up a poll, so we can choose from the three suggested so far, and go from there....
