I assumed I'd misread the date when I read this piece on the BBC news website. Of course, there's a catch: whilst the newly discovered mineral DOES contain "sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide" it doesn't contain any fluorine. So it isn't actually kryptonite, just exaggerated reporting. (And they can't even call it kryptonite either, as krypton gas already exists as an element: they'll have to use something like "Jadarite", which sounds more like something from the Star Wars universe...)
