This could be aimed accurately at some Chrons members!

Scientific American Mind: Insomnia Worse for Night Owls -- Despite getting more sleep than early risers, late-sleeping insomniacs have more emotional distress

According to a new study, night owls with insomnia may have a harder time of it than early risers, despite spending more time asleep.......Night owls reported feeling less in control of their sleep and feeling that they have a hard time getting through the day with less sleep, which might perpetuate insomnia, the researchers say. And they had more risk factors for depression.
So be warned, next time you're up tap-tapping away in the small hours.........:p
 
Hmmm. However, I've also seen studies done over the years indicating that there are those whose metabolism is just naturally geared toward being a "night owl" -- I'm more than a bit that way myself -- and that's when they're most alert and awake; that working a daytime schedule and sleeping the "normal" hours keeps them feeling only about half-awake, low energy, and so on.

Though I don't doubt its worth, having known a fair number of night owls as well, I'm inclined to take such a study with more than a grain of salt.....
 
I do seem to wake up more as the day goes on. When I wake up in the morning I...go back back to sleep usually (get a few more power naps in!) and I usually have to throw myself out of bed. Yet as the day progresses I get more and more awake. Late at night is when I suddenly feel up fo doing stuff (like now, at 11:15, I'm bored and in need of something to do!) It's the same with when I have work to do or an essay to write...I'll stare at it for the entire afternoon, but at night I'm much more motivated.

This is very true, though. If I don't get the "usual amount" of sleep, then I will feel more tired than usual.
 
Hah, I'm only partly joking. I lie there for ages thinking "Come on, now, it's time to get up...ah, 10 more minutes won't hurt zzz...Get UP! ...just a few more minutes zzz ...Get up NOW!" *Lunge out of bed*
 
Over various periods of my life, I've adapted to a variety of different rhythms : Theatre and rock and roll touring, zomboid before noon, peaking eight or nine in the evening, with maybe a second "derig" peak at midnight,
Groundsman + theatre; up at four thirty, autopilot till eight, functional till two, then a dead zone till eightish
Studio: open at nine, but rarely anything before ten thirty. Afternoon the more interesting, challenging sessions, normally finish around midnight
Montreux jazz festival; sounchecks start ant nine, concerts finish about five, six in the morning, food and catnaps in any musician-free period
Conventional office and factory work; conventional hours.
And each of these rhythms is adopted by the body in less than a week.
So, while I'm not a conventional "morning" person, I can fake it; and suspect most of you could adapt similarly, given a reason.
 
So thats what's wrong with me.....

I usually go to bed between midnight and five am, get up between 7-9 am (7 on weekdays, 9 on weekends). Take a nap for an hour or two around noon. Thats pretty much my schedule. I'd love to get more sleep, and I can fall asleep and stay asleep. I'm just too freaking busy too sleep.
 
I go to bed about 2, get up about 7 or 8. Weekends bed at 3 or 4, up at 8.

I also get less tired as the day goes on. I hate getting up, but I hate going to bed even more.

And 2am is my fave time of the day :) I love the night. Have considered moving to Alaska so I can have nice long nights during the winter.

"Put up a large red button marked 'End of the world button - DO NOT TOUCH', some dang fool will want to check!"
