I don't really want to start another discussion based on the impending HBO series of ASoIaF, but after having watched this show (The Tudors) since its release I'm really confident in the ASoIaF series being a great success. Granted The Tudors is produced by Showtime, but both networks have a great history when it comes to series, and the popularity of the show has been astounding. I'm sure some will claim this is because the story is based around Henry the VIII, but I'd beg to differ, considering the previews for the show were ambiguous, and that the only way you would have known it was based on his life is if you'd known quite a bit about the man or had actually watched the first episode. I don't want to insult the intelligence of the average viewer, but I don't see many individuals being historically adept and I base the shows popularity on its quality. This may seem off-topic, but I'd like to hear what other ASoIaF fans have to say about the show, who may have similar thoughts.

I've just watched the first two episodes and plan on watching the whole series (the next three are already downloaded and ready to be burnt to DVD :) ). If ASOIAF is as good in terms of production and design values then I think the majority of us will be more than happy. A good strong cast with familiar, but not always well known, faces, though i was a bit gutted to see one of my favourite actors die within the first couple of minutes.

My history of this period is a bit weak, but I plan on letting my daughter watch (even though she hides her face when the *ahem* adult *ahem* scenes appear (she's 15 by the way)) to help peak her interest in the history of her own country.

Definitely one to watch now that the current runs of SG1, BSG, Jericho and sadly Rome have finished.

Commonwind, thanks for the heads up on this one - did you spot a modern concrete bollard in the first episode as Wolsey was entering the Palace gates?

No problem, and no I didn't spot that, but I have it saved so I'll have to check it out.
