Does anyone else suffer from total, utter and mind-numbing block when it comes to writing a synopsis?

I mean, if like me, your book starts off on one track and gently develops into many plotlines and developments...... how do you sufficiently narrow it all down into a couple of paragraphs? And how do you make those paragraphs sound interesting? How do you hype it up to the point where the reader is in a frenzy to get their hands on your book and your book alone out of hundreds????

From what I've read, you need to focus on telling all the MAJOR event in your story without becoming bogged down under trivial details. So no mentioning every single character, their likes, dislikes, mini plot threads, etc.

You also need to focus on revealing what the conflict actually is in your story, who the protagonist and antagonists are, what makes those characters unique and interesting, and, most importantly, GIVE AWAY THE ENDING OF YOUR BOOK. You don't know how many synopsises agents/editors receive where the author seems to feel they would be giving the surprise away by writing it. This is baloney; the people in their posh offices need to know you can handle the beginning, middle, and end of your story; i.e., you can handle the FULL thing.

Hope this helps. :)

Well thanks, but I have to say, it isn't my thread! :D I've never posted up any work for critique! I prefer helping others. ^_~

Speaking of which, I'll have to be logging out soon; I've got some editing to be getting on with!
