Lloyd Alexander Dead

Damn. Yet another special dreamer gone. At least he did have a fairly long life, and certainly produced a wonderful array of books to engender dreams in others....

Yes. And who's to take his place? I have many great memories of the Prydain Chronicles, especially the editions graced with cover illustrations by the Belgian artist Jean Leon Huens.

Oh that's really sad. Spring seems to be the season of death. I've never read his books though.

Totally unknown to me,this author.
“In whatever guise — our own daily nightmares of war, intolerance, inhumanity; or the struggles of an Assistant Pig-Keeper against the Lord of Death — the problems are agonizingly familiar, “And an openness to compassion, love and mercy is as essential to us here and now as it is to any inhabitant of an imaginary kingdom.”
Something tells me he could write a bit

"Not even a pig-keeper, but an assistant pig-keeper"

Another of my early reading influences gone.

Fama semper vivat.

Sad news indeed!!

It will be interesting to read his now post humous book The Golden Dream of Carlo Chuchio a YA book with a rich vein of middle eastern folklore. It's scheduled for release later this year.

Ben, if you've not read Alexander, you really should give him a try. Though his work was YA it, like Alan Garner's YA books, are richly textured and deeply rooted in folklore and myth. Well worth reading.

Yes - very sad indeed.

However, Curt, how is it that you keep letting us know about deaths? Is it one of your fascinations to keep an eye on the despatched columns?

I was just wondering that myself! :p No, I don't habitually read the obituary columns, but I do read the New York Times religiously every evening and this and the article about Falwell's passing caught my eye. Just a coincidence, but we should expect another such notice - bad news always seem to come in batches of three.

However, I'll try to make my future posts a bit cheerier! :)
