Fantastic Names Website

I have just found a great website for naming characters. It is a baby names site called www.babynamesworld.com

It contains 17,000+ names in several languages but what makes it stand out from others I have looked at is that you can search by the meaning of a word - very helpful if you want a person's name to mean e.g. 'strong' or 'pure'.

I have just decided to re-name my main character as I have found a better name than the one I was using.

I've been using as inspiration the UK's "Office of Population, Censuses and Surveys" review of first names 1944-1994. (First Names; Merry, Emma; HMSO 1995; 0-11-691633-8) Although it has a much more limited range of names it can give guidance to a novel set 20 years ago, remembering to go back 20 more (or so) for those characters' parents.

Thanks for posting this link. I am truly terrible at developing names for my characters - it was bad enough when I had to name my children (Tipsy, Aquamint and Bungle)
