Just seen an article that the Director of American Pie and About a Boy has picked up the film rights to Elric.
Wow. Hugh Grant as Elric anyone?

EDIT: In fairness you could argue the same reaction when people first heard the Director of Braindead and Bad Taste was doing Lord of the Rings...

Yes, I've seen comments from Mike that he's quite happy with this idea; he doesn't want a slavish adaptation, either, but prefers a looser approach -- which is probably a good idea, if you're going to try to fit this into doing a single film -- and Elric will be extremely refractory to adapt to the medium in the normal way, I would think, and still appeal to a mass audience.

However, when they talk about this being "Of the great classic fantasy series it’s the one that hasn’t been done yet" -- errr, aren't we forgetting Leiber's Fafhrd and Gray Mouser (which was an influence on Moorcock)... not to mention a few others?
