The Revived Tolkien Trivia

Círdan.

Gil-galad before he died gave his ring to Elrond; Círdan later surrendered his to Mithrandir......
'Take this ring, Master,' he said, ...'For this is the Ring of Fire, and with it you may rekindle hearts in a world that grows chill.'

Ta!

Who owned a jewelled belt "of great magnificence"?

...Bilbo also noticed that Balm's beard was several inches longer, and his jewelled belt was of great magnificence.
The Hobbit, Ch. 19 The Last Stage

Balm??

Close enough, Marky....more of a "clong" than a "ding", though...

Your go....

Yes Balm :D

Okay, I'm doing this one by heart, but I'm sure this one could be found, too :p

How many granddaughters did Finwe have?

Two: Aradhel and Galadriel

Finwë was King of the Noldor. The sons of Finwë were Fëanor, and Fingolfin, and Finarfin;
Fëanor had seven sons, but no daughter.
The sons of Fingolfin were......and their sister was Aradhel the White.
The sons of Finarfin were.....A sister they had, Galadriel, most beautiful of all the house of Finwë:....

Ok then - here we go....

Given that the LotR happened on this earth, but long ago: What Age are we in now, according to JRRT?

Don't have the book on-hand to quote page numbers, but isn't it the 4th Age (the "Age of Men") from The Return of the King?

(Pyan dragging Gollum-speech in here can't be promising....)

*winces in anticipation of buzzer sound*

That is an interpretation of the answer, Grimward, but somewhere in the permitted books for this thread (see first post), there is a specific quote that is the answer that I'm looking for.
The "inner clue", if you like, is in the phrase according to JRRT - which gives a pointer to which book the answer is in.....

(How's that for a polite u-uhh noise...!:p)

It's OK, Pyan, I deserved to be shot down in flames. Not having all of the required materials, it was presumptuous of me to volunteer in the first place! ;)

Is this better, though?

*) I imagine the gap to be about 6000 years: that is we are now
at the end of the Fifth Age, if the Ages were of about the
same length as S.A. and T.A. But they have, I think,
quickened; and I imagine we are actually at the end of the
Sixth Age, or in the Seventh.Letter #211, p. 283?

That's the quote I was looking for..Molto excellento, Grim One!:D

And now the hard part...your turn!

I think a bell is required to ring, if I understand the protocol here. I will do so...

*Rings Cow Bell for variety's sake*

O.K. In middle earth, what season is appropriate for visiting the beeches?

You must mean Treebeard's Song!

To the beeches of Neldoreth I came in the Autumn.
Ah! the gold and the red and the sighing leaves in the Autumn in Taur-na-neldor!
It was more than my desire.

*Cowbell temporarily shelved, don't want a "clang" here!*

Ting!

Cheers Marky. Pleased to make your acquaintance, that's indeed the quote, and it's your turn!
