... except me, of course! :D

I've just received confirmation that I, together with two other children's authors - Linda Strachan and Charles Butler - have been selected to take part in 'Codex'.

Codex

The main competition part of the show will be filmed in the British Museum on 24th/25th June, when, of course, we will win! There will also be a 'Meet the Teams' bit at the beginning of the show, which will be our opportunity to get a few seconds telling the great British public what we do for a living. In our team's case, we intend to have this filmed in a school where we will be talking to young people and reading from our books. It will be a snapshot, but at least it will give a chance to work in a plug or two! :D

I'm looking forward to this one immensely. As anyone who has ever competed against me in any way shape or form will know ... I never play to lose, so I'll be taking this very seriously.

Just make sure you mention the Chrons in some way, shape or form.

Any idea (general or firm) when your episode will be aired?

Oh, and best of luck!

That sounds great Mark! I do hope we get to see it over here...eventually.

Go Mark! I trust you'll ensure victory by sneaking through the shadows of the museum and lobbing the occasional throwing knife...

ABSO-BLOOMING-LUTELY WELL DONE MARK! Let's know when it is because, like the title of this thread says, there's not a thing on the box these days one wants to watch! In fact, I think I'll get rid of it - after your first time. As I've said before, you give all of us unknown writers such great hope.

At the moment I have no idea when the show will be aired, but will let you know when I have more idea. At a guess, I would expect it to be shown in the Autumn sometime.

I quite like the idea of sneaking around in the shadows with a set of throwing knives, but I imagine that might compromise the rules! :( Ah, well, I suppose we will just have to win the old fashioned way.

Yes, WS, it will be filmed behind closed doors. A shame, but I imagine the curators of the museum would have a fit if Channel 4 had onlookers running amok amidst the priceless artefacts in the British Museum without a full complement of staff to supervise them.

Ah well nevermind.
I'm imagining it to be something like the Crystal Maze so I think the reason it's behind closed doors is so the celebrities (yes, I'm including you Mark!) wearing daft multi-coloured jumpsuits don't get the piss taken out of them by the audience :)

Oops I just broke that vase. Ah Ming-dynasty, bwah doesn't sound too expensive:D .
Anyway I'm affraid I don't have channel 4 here. Will someone through devious means make sure I can watch some of it? Please please.

Scalem, I'll be sure to ask Brian to perform some of his wizardry and put some clips up on my website - maybe as part of my blog, or something. It would be fun to have a bit of it online somewhere, but it will depend very much on copyright and whether it will involve paying for the rights to put it online.

Mark,

This sounds really exciting! How did you get invited to do the show? Sounds like a great way to attract new readers.

Anyway, good luck on the day - and I look forward to seeing the final result in due course... :)

YAY! Well done Mark! :D

Some news at at last. The scheduling is set in semi hard jelly! Prime time Saturday night on Channel 4 can't be bad!

The series is currently scheduled to start transmitting on Channel 4 at 20.15 on Saturday November 10th. The programmes will be going out in the following order (subject to last minute chamnges by Channel 4):-

Nov 10: Politicians vs. Stewards
Nov 17: Archaeologists vs. History Students
Nov 24: Accountants vs. Investors
Dec 1: Archaeologists vs. Authors (This is it folks!)
Dec 8: Guides vs. Surveyors
Dec 15: Archivists vs. Students

I hope some of you will tune in for a laugh as we authors take on the Institute of Field Archaeologists in a quiz show about ancient history. What would the archaeologists know about ancient history anyway? All they do is sit in holes in the ground fiddlng with mud!
