Traveller is the Seguleh First!!!!!!!! The only being that even Icarium believes can defeat Him. In bonehunters I carium told tavaralack veeed that against the warrior they may face when the y reached the shadow throne he may lose. Dassem ultor is an exceptional swordsman but he could never beat I carium

I may have mixed it up but i think trull and quick ben were at the first throne and traveller and the tiste andii were at the shadow throne. And I cariums statement was made on the way to the shadow throne before kellanveds illusion made them redirect their efforts to the first throne in frustration.

BTW Icarium took care of trull and quick pretty convincingly and would probably have given good ol dancer( who was supposed to be next after quick ben fell) an extensive but probably short lived lesson in assasination. thank goodness for the eres al eh, as i love all those characters.

I'm going to blank out this whole post because the spoilers span two books, and could be potentially devastating. I'd advise people not to read the post until at least reading Toll the Hounds (the other book is Esslemont's Night of Knives).

My first thoughts, when meeting him in HoC, were that he was just a person. When I read NoK, I didn't even think about him, but having just read the start of the fourth chapter of TtH, I'm convinced it's Dassem Ultor.

NoK has a few flashbacks which concern the breaking of the Sword of the Empire at Y'ghatan. Dassem survived, along with two others of the Sword (a group of five 'bodyguards' and Dassem), one of whom is a key character in the book. The two and Dassem parted ways, with Dassem saying he needed to travel alone, to find something.

Traveller is of average height but seems a lot taller, dark-skinned, and had sword skillz that truly pay his bills. Dassem Ultor was of avergae height, dark-skinned, and was the First Sword of the Empire - a position that obviously meant he had amazing sword skills.

And that's all I have to go by, actually... seems so little, now I look at it.

But yes, I'd put my computer on Traveller being Dassem Ultor. Don't forget that Keeper, who lives in a tower and re-builds skeletons turned out to be Urko (wasn't he?).

EDIT: I mustn't forget to add the clincher - Dassem had foresaken Hood, which if not mentioned in an Erikson book was mentioned in NoK. At the end of the passage in TtH in which we first see Traveller, Erikson casually remarks that Traveller had forsaken Hood, so the final gate was closed to him. Coincidence, or same person?

Damnit, thanks a lot Lenny.

Not that I read it, I just really really want to, lol.

I think Toll the hounds has finally made it clear that Traveller is in fact Dassem ultor . Whether he is the Seguleh 1st is another matter. But one who could best Rake and Kallor, Dassem ultor should be the finest swordsman in the whole series!

Traveller is Dassem Ultor not the Seguleh First. This is pretty much all but spelled out in toll the hounds.

Traveller= Dassem (minus possible Dessembrae)= First Seguleh if Esslemont is to be believed.
